BYD Song Plus

The Song’s interior is classy, modern, and approachable. The centerpiece is a center screen that motors between landscape and portrait orientations. The back seat offers plenty of stretch-out space, though the floor feels rather high about the location of the seat cushion, likely a function of the large battery pack located underneath.
During our drive, the Song ran in EV and hybrid modes, and while we could hear the engine when it revved, it was the only time it was known. The transitions were so seamless and refined, and the vibrations so well subdued, that we found it nearly impossible to tell when the engine was starting and stopping. We can think of several automakers that took years to get their hybrid powertrain refinement to this level. BYD hit the bullseye right off the bat.
